Abstract

This paper reviews the initial attempts being made in India to establish the practice of environmental audit, especially in the industries that cause pollution and ar¬gues that the objective of Environmental Audit is to evaluate procedures and practices that could result in systematic contamination, rather than to detect the potential for severe one time catastrophic releases. In¬cludes a case study which demonstrates the variety of problems that can be identified through an environ¬mental audit.
