GC-MS Study of Flowers, Fruits and Inflorescence of Fish Tail Palm, Caryota urens in Different Solvent Extracts
Keywords:
Caryota urens, GC-MS, polar solvents and non-polar solventsAbstract
The source of many plants (herbs and spices) can often be identified from the peak pattern of the chromatograms obtained directly from headspace analysis. Similarly, idiosyncratic qualitative and quantitative patterns from a GC analysis will often help to identify the source of many food and medicinal products. The technique of fingerprint could really identify the false herbal products. The concept of phyto-equivalence of herbs, and then to use this conception to identify the real herbal medicine and further to do quality control are the fundamental reason of quality control of herbal medicines. Therefore, GC-MS method is a direct and fast analytical approach for identification of secondary metabolites in plant was analyzed with very less amount of extract. The importance of the study is due to the biological activity of some of these compounds. The present study reveals the presence of various components in polar and non-polar solvent extract of Caryota urens plant materials suggest that the contribution of these compounds on the various biological fields should be evaluated.
