Synthesis and Structural Studies of Complexes of Coumarin Derivative

A bidentate chalcone namely 3-[ {-(3' -bromo phenyl) }-prop-2-enoyl]-4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H-chromene-2-one(2) was synthesized by condensing 3-acetyl-4-hydroxy-6-methyl-coumarin with 3-bromo benzaldehyde. Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Mn(II) complexes of this chelating ligand were synthesized using hydroxides of these metals. The ligand and the complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, 1H NMR, UV-Vis and IR spectra, conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements. All these studies determines the metal-ligand stoichiometry.
