Relevance of translation in Multicultural Indian Society

Abstract

Due to geographical and cultural differences, the civic landscape of this world is multilingual. This multilingualism is a clear evidence of multiculturalism, because language not only helps a community to express itself, but it is also the preserver of its culture. The nature of history, social behavior, psychology, tradition and ethos of the society is also seen in the language. In such a situation, communication in any language is related to its culture. This dialogue takes place in every society through the verbal and non-verbal forms of language. But the literal form of language is mostly used in dialogue. Even in a multicultural society, communication takes place through language and the biggest problem of this communication is language itself, because each language has its own expression style which is different from each other. In this case, this problem is overcome by translation. Therefore translation is the medium of all multicultural communication.
