Abstract

Eric Hobsbawm quoted the line of French historian Ernest Renan's March 11, 1882 lecture in What Is a Nation at the beginning of his book The Age of Capital, the fifth chapter, Building Nations. At the end of the nineteenth century Ernest Renan was asking what the nation is? In his lecture (possibly for the first time), Renan considered in detail the 'nation' and its concept, calling the nation a 'daily referendum'. It was considered the result of the French Revolution of 1789. Based on what the public generally forgets and remembers, they called 'nation'. 1 According to the Merriam-Wechster dictionary, 'Nation' was first used in the 14th century and 'Nationalism' in 1844. The Nation of English originates from the Latin Chhanjpav, meaning people (peepal), primitive caste, tribe (trib) relative, relative, sagotra (kin), gana (genus) class (class) and group, Dal (flak). The arrival of 'Nation' in English comes from the old French word 'nacian', which literally means 'birth'. Nation is also used as a synonym for state and country.
