Abstract
Agricultural land system of permanent settlement existed in Bihar during the British rule. It was enacted in 1793 and ended in 1950 when the Bihar Land Reform Act came into force. This system was used by the East India Company until 1786, when the Diwali was conferred by the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam in 1765 and was implemented as a result of the constraints of the conditions of the time.
