Abstract

The Mughal interest in music is well known. From the first Mughal emperor Zaheeruddin Mohammad Babur to Aurangzeb, he loved music. Although Aurangzeb banned music in the tenth year of the reign, it is notable that he himself was an accomplished harpist. Babur was also fond of music and Humayun too. He often held music meetings in his camp in the evening. This tradition of music reached its peak at the time of Akbar when the classical side of music also developed and musicians were invited and patronized with open heart in the court.
