Abstract
The caste-system has existed in Indian society since ancient times as an important social institution. It is a complex institution, it has seen many rise and fall in its time. It is an important social institution in Indian society, this is confirmed by the fact that ‘K.M. Describing the feature of Indian traditional society, Panikkar has said that mainly two social institutions are found here, which are joint family and caste system. The Indian caste system is also considered as schmupadam, but many social scientists have considered the caste system to be a schizophrenic. This idea was not only given by Indian social scientists, but social scientists of Europe also supported the same thing. Confirming this fact, Hattan has written, “Earlier Europeon observers of the caste system were content to regard it an artificial creation.”1
