Abstract

Present day India is making rapid progress. Despite this, it is ironic that even after 72 years of our country's independence, the condition of women, who are said to be half the population, is still not good. In the metropolises, we see women around us very strong and they also seem to be competing side by side with men. But as soon as you turn to small towns, cities or villages, the situation looks quite different. Here women have neither economic freedom nor freedom from social shackles. It is not that the government is not aware of this. Previous Central Governments and State Governments had run various schemes at their level to overcome this problem. But statistics on the number of girls in the 2011 census show that it has not had much success. Maybe that is why the present central government is looking a little too active on this front. He has tried to make people serious about the health of newborn girls through schemes like 'Mission Rainbow' and has also run schemes like Sukanya Samridhi for economic welfare. The 'Beti Bachao Beti Padao' scheme initiated by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi can prove to be a milestone in the progress of girls and various employment schemes can also empower girls / women. The research paper presented is based on government efforts for girls empowerment and their review.
