Abstract

This paper proposes a new patch antenna design using defected ground structure (DGS) for ultra wideband frequencies from 3 GHz – 9.4 GHz. The proposed antenna has been designed using rectangular patch with FR-4 glass epoxy substrate having relative permittivity of 4.3 while the height of substrate being kept at 1.6mm. Various parameters like return loss, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR), directivity, radiation pattern and bandwidth are analyzed. It has been observed that a good impedance match (return loss ≤ -10 dB) for the entire band is achieved. This antenna can be used for wireless applications which include WiMAX, Wi- Fi, satellite applications and some applications in X band.
