Abstract

The Department of Women and Child Development has been established by the Government of India in 1985 as a part of human resource development. This department was given the status of a ministry on 30 January 2006. Overall development of women and children is its main objective. This ministry creates schemes, policies and programs for the advancement of women and children and is also aware of the improvement in it by implementing laws for its development. The world's largest and unique program "Integrated Child Development Program" (PBCA) was implemented by this ministry for the overall development of children. The scheme was formulated in 1947, and was fully implemented in 1975.
