National Scenario of Cancer Incidence in Nepal - 2017

Abstract

Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body, which is a major public health problem in the world. This study aims to determined different types of cancer incidence in Nepal. In this descriptive study used the primary and secondary data of National Cancer Registry Program (NCRP) from January first to December last of 2017. NCRP currently includes 12 major hospitals of the nation where diagnostic and treatment facilities were available. The most common cancer in Nepal for 2017 was C34 lung 12.81 % followed by C53 cervical 8.82%, C50 breast 8.71 5.10%, C16 stomach 5.10% and C23 gall bladder 3.99%. and ovarian cancer. Among males, C34 lung cancer 15.93% was the most common followed by C50 stomach 6.56%, C67 bladder 4.88%, C32 larynx 4.13% and liver & intrahepatic bile duct 3.71%. Among females, C53 cervical cancer 16.4% followed by C50 breast 15.98%, C34 lung 10.04%, C56 ovary 7.05% and C23 gall bladder 5.04%. Cancer incidence was yearly increasing in Nepal and thus comprehensive programmed on cancer prevention, early detection, control and treatment should be carried out in national context.
